Navtex System

NAVTEX (NAVigational TEleX) System is a part of Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS) and serves for the transmission of Maritime Safety Information (MSI) within the Worldwide Navigational Warning Service (WWNWS). Operating frequency on which messages are transmitted is 518 kHz in FEC mode (Forward Error Correction).

The Hydrographic Institute of Republic of Croatia from Split is National coordinator for Navtex System, while Navarea coordinator for Navarea region III is situated in Cadiz, Spain.

NAVTEX System of Plovput consists of a Control Centre located at the Coast Radio Station Split Radio and a Transmitting Centre on R.R.S. Hvar. They are connected by means of UHF radio stations.

Coast Radio Station Split Radio has six regular Navtex broadcasts (in English) and if necessary makes also some extra transmissions.
