Special marks are used to mark some areas or structures which are mentioned in nautical publications such as:
- System for data collection in the open sea (Oceanographic Data Acquisition System - ODAS);
- traffic routing in places where other marks may cause confusion;
- place for unloading of materials;
- military maneuvers zone;
- cables and pipes;
- recreational zones;
- fish breeding place.
