Regulations about marks and the way of marking of fairways in the internal sea waters and territorial sea of the Republic of Croatia prescribe all the marks in the internal sea waters and territorial sea of the Republic of Croatia. In the internal sea waters and territorial sea of the Republic of Croatia fairways are marked by the combined lateral and cardinal system of signalization.
In the internal sea waters and territorial sea of the Republic of Croatia the following will be marked:
- lateral limits of navigational channels;
- natural navigational dangers and other obstacles (wrecks, etc.);
- areas and structures which are important for navigation;
- new dangers for navigation;
- forbidden anchorages;
- ports and approaches to ports.
Maritime buoyage system consists of eight types of marks which may also be combined:
The marks can be floating, fixed (constructed) or elastic.
The marks may have lights. Meaning of a mark depends on one or more characteristics, namely:
- by day – on their shape, top mark and colour,
- by night – on their colour and light rhythm.
