Plovput LLC limited liability commercial company for
maintenance of maritime waterways and radio service

About Us

Plovput  is a commercial company with limited liability, 100% owned by the Republic of Croatia. Its basic activity, according to the Maritime Code and Plovput Split Act, is related to safety of navigation and comprises:

  • Maintenance of maritime waterways in the internal sea waters and territorial sea of the Republic of Croatia;
  • Implementation of aids to navigation on maritime waterways in the internal sea waters and territorial sea of the Republic of Croatia and guarantee of their correct functioning;
  • Radio service on maritime waterways of the Republic of Croatia;
  • Researches and designing necessary for carrying out of its basic activities;
  • Removal of wrecks located outside the port area (in accordance with the decision of the Harbour Master Office).

BRIEF HISTORICAL SURVEY OF LIGHTHOUSE SERVICE IN THE EASTERN PART OF THE ADRIATIC

1818. Austro-Hungarian monarchy built the lighthouse Savudrija. Development of lighthouse service is administrated by the ''Maritime administration in Trieste''.
1918. The ''Maritime administration in Bakar'' takes over the care about aids to navigation.
1924. After the reorganization, the service is transferred to Split under the name ''Directorate for maritime traffic''.
1945. The service is functioning by means of the ''Maritime Directorate'' in Split making part of the ''Main maritime Directorate'' in Belgrade.
1949. ''Directorate for the North, Central and South Adriatic ports'' were founded making part of the FPRY Ministry of maritime affairs. 
1952. ''Directorate for the North, Central and South Adriatic zones'' were founded making part of the FPRY Ministry of maritime affairs.
1962. The ''Institution for maintenance of maritime fairways'' was founded which took care of safety of navigation in the coastal sea of SFRY, under the auspices of the ''Federal Secretariat for Traffic and Communications''.
1992. By the Decree of the Government of the Republic of Croatia, the society ''Plovput p.o. Split'' is founded, 100% owned by the Republic of Croatia. This society took over all the assets, rights and obligations, as well as all the workers of the ''Institution for maintenance of maritime fairways'' in the territory of the Republic of Croatia''.
1997. Parliament of the Republic of Croatia enacted the Plovput Split Act, by which ''Plovput p.o. Split'' becomes a commercial society with limited responsibility, with abbreviated name ''Plovput d.o.o. Split''.
