NAVTEX (NAVigational TEleX) System is a part of Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS) and serves for broadcasting of Maritime Safety Information (MSI) within the Worldwide Navigational Warning Service (WWNWS). NAVTEX messages are broadcasted in FEC mode (Forward Error Correction) on operating frequencies 518 kHz (International NAVTEX Service) and 490 kHz (National NAVTEX Service).
The Hydrographic Institute of Republic of Croatia from Split is National coordinator for Navtex System, while Navarea coordinator for Navarea region III is situated in Cadiz, Spain.
The NAVTEX station through which NAVTEX messages are broadcast is ORP Split Radio with a remark that all three coast radio stations participate in preparation and broadcasting of NAVTEX messages.
NAVTEX System of Plovput consists of operators sites on coast radio stations Rijeka Radio, Split Radio and Dubrovnik Radio and Transmitting Centre on R.R.S. Hvar by means of a VPN network based on TCP/IP technology.

NAVTEX messages are broadcasted within 6 regular broadcasts in English (International NAVTEX Service) and Cratian language (National NAVTEX Service) and if necessary as a part of extra transmissions.
