About Us

Plovput d.o.o Split is a commercial society 100% owned by the Republic of Croatia. Its basic activity, according to the Maritime Law and Law about Plovput, is related to safety of navigation and comprises:

  • Maintenance of maritime fairways in the internal sea waters and territorial sea of the Republic of Croatia;
  • Implementation of aids to navigation on maritime fairways in the internal sea waters and territorial sea of the Republic of Croatia and guarantee of their correct functioning;
  • Radio service on maritime fairways of the Republic of Croatia;
  • Researches and designing necessary for carrying out of its basic activities. 

On behalf of the Republic of Croatia, Plovput is a member of the International Association of Lighthouse Authorities (IALA).

BRIEF HISTORICAL SURVEY OF LIGHTHOUSE SERVICE IN THE EASTERN PART OF THE ADRIATIC

YEAR DEVELOPMENT
1818. Austro-Hungarian monarchy built the lighthouse Savudrija, first of 48 lighthouses which are still in function. Development of lighthouse service is administrated by the ''Maritime administration in Trieste''.
1918. The ''Maritime administration in Bakar'' takes over the care about aids to navigation.
1924. After the reorganization, the service is transferred to Split under the name ''Direction for maritime traffic''.
1945. The service is functioning by means of three Maritime zones, making part of the ''Secretariat for traffic and communications''.
1962. The ''Institution for maintenance of maritime fairways'' was founded which took care of safety of navigation in the coastal sea of ex-Yugoslavia, under the auspices of the ''Federal Secretariat for Traffic and Communications''.
1992. By the Decree of the Government of the Republic of Croatia, the society ''Plovput p.o. Split'' is founded, 100% owned by the Republic of Croatia. This society took over all the assets, rights and obligations, as well as all the workers of the ''Institution for maintenance of maritime fairways'' in the territory of the Republic of Croatia''.
1997. Parliament of the Republic of Croatia enacted the Law about Plovput Split, by which ''Plovput p.o. Split'' becomes a commercial society with limited responsibility, with abbreviated name ''Plovput d.o.o. Split''.
